The Musical Priest

I apologize for the delay in posting this! Last week was a full-on marathon of rehearsals with Ligeti, Tower, Wagner, and Mahler on the menu, so I had my hands pretty full. It was a great program and the orchestra performed it on Friday.

Part of my goal with this blog is to get comfortable exploring different styles of music, but last week made me realize that a mixture of styles in a “Classical” concert can be a big enough challenge! From American fanfare to ethereal other-world to heavy and heavenly German romance to the epic woodland tragicomedy that is Mahler’s first symphony, this concert covered a lot of ground.

I still can’t shake the Mahler melodies out of my head, so I’m posting a video of a little Irish tune that I learned and recorded a few months ago. It’s short and sweet and light, and hopefully listening to it will help reset our minds for the week.

Happy listening!
